CHALLENGES IN KENYA
Sexual health problems have always been severe among adolescent groups in Kenya. The government has invested millions of dollars in building sexual health clinics to address this issue.
However, the problem still exists because the visiting rate of those clinics has been low.

A GLANCE OF SOLUTION
Social stigma and poor access to clinics are the main reasons of clinic's low visits.
So we proposed a mobile and anonymous sexual health service hidden in the Matatu (a popular local bus) to help adolescents in Kenya secretly get help from credential clinics when they needed.
FIELD RESEARCH
To understand the core of this problem, I led team conducted 4 rounds of field research. Through the connection with the local middle school and high school, we managed to conduct user research and workshop with all the stakeholders involved in the problem.

PROBLEM DEFINING
From the research, we discovered that schools already have well-developed sexual health education and adolescents also have enough knowledge to protect themselves. The main reason for this problem is the social stigma caused by conservative culture and poor access to the clinic caused by the highly-connected neighborhood.
DESIGN CHALLENGE
How Might We connect the Kenya youth to credible sexual health services by helping them bypass the social stigma and get easy access to the clinic?
DESIGN GOALS
Private
“You don’t want to be get caught when going to a sexual health clinic by your neighbours, trust me.”

“Walking for 2 hours for a clinic is just too much, for both my girlfriend and myself”
Professional
“How accurate is this? We’ve googled before and gotten 7 different explanations about this.”
DESIGN INSPIRATION ✨Matatu✨
I got inspiration from this typical and super popular Kenya bus, Matatu. It has two features that are perfect for helping us solve the clinic problem in Kenya.
Mobile & Convenient
Matatu is mobile and convenient. It can meet users everywhere users want, super easy to get access.
Popular & Unbostrusive
Matatu is everywhere in Kenya's neighborhoods. And it has various colorful patterns, which makes it unobtrusive.
FINAL CONCEPT
We provide two services: deliver products and receive consultants on Matatu.

User feedback:
When they booked service through our platform, they felt insecure. Because the information users gave is really sensitive, they were worried other people would somehow get that information.
Iteration:
Adding a banner on pages that related to information collection. The banner shows the platform will protect users' information. Users can check more about the confidentiality promise by clicking the' detail button.'
